I'm working on a sort of Hipster Han Solo costume and I'm finding that, since the Star Wars costumes were designed in the '70s, Han really already has it down, except for the boots being a little too high. Other than that, he's there. So it's tough to make it obvious that it's a hipster version and not just a poorly done costume made of bits and pieces I've found lying around.
My trouble is finding the details that make Solo iconic, his gun, his vest, the boots, and apply a hipster filter (there's an overused name for that I think...oh right! Instagram) to those pieces to bring them into today. If I can swing it, I'd also like an old, gray road bike that I can apply a "Millennium Falcon" decal to, since no hipster would be caught using any transportation but a bike, right? I'm thinking an ironic shirt would be nice too. "I shot WAY before Greedo" or "Millennium Falcon? You've probably never heard of it" are two obvious choices.
I'm trying to get the stereotypical hipster fashion down, too. Vintage and close fitting or baggy, no in-between. Han's not frumpy, so I think the close fitting would be best. Skinny jeans. Old combat boots, loosely tied. Deep V-neck. I've got a black vest that'll do perfectly. I want brilliant red socks as an homage to Han's Correllian blood stripe on his trousers, and I think that kind of loud footwear works with the hipster image. But I don't know what to do about the gun (I have a Nerf gun I'm considering painting, but would a hipster condone shooting? Maybe an iPhone case or something for a can of Pabst...) and I don't know if I should include a knit hat or not.
